HoD Gastro without OPD for 4 months, patients suffer

JAMMU, Aug 17: The patients of gastroenterology are bound to suffer in the absence of OPD services which were closed in Super Specialty Hospital, Jammu after the Gastro Department was closed there and its Head of the Department was shifted in Medicine Department of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu.
Though after the intervention of court both Gastroenterology Department and its HoD, Dr Showket Choudhary were restored to their earlier position but OPD services remained suspended, as Dr Showket Choudhary was not allowed to hold OPD and as a result patients are suffering for last about four months.
Irating over the closure of OPD services of Gastroenterology, scores of patients and attendants this morning held a protest demonstration in Super Specialty Hospital demanding start of OPD services. The protesting patients and attendants raised slogans against the hospital administration and even gheraoed the Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Ramesh Gupta, who expressed helplessness and said that the matter is out of his purview.
Later, the protestors approached officiating Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, Dr Zahid Gilani, who pacified the protestors and issued on spot orders directing HoD Gastroenterology to hold a special OPD for today only.
