Hold Assembly elections in J&K without delay: Manjit

JAMMU, Jan 23: Apni Party Provincial president, Jammu and former minister, Manjit Singh today demanded holding of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a party workers’ meeting after inaugurating Apni Party office at RS Pura, the former minister said that the people have lost their faith in the administration due to their failure to deliver and growing of frequent issues being confronted by the people in both the regions.
“The unemployed youth are concerned about employment; farmers are worried about their agricultural fields and marginalized are spending sleepless nights fearing that they will be displaced from their respective land on the name of state land, outsiders are grabbing resources, poor employment opportunities, increase in price of essential commodities etc,” he said.
“The people are fed up with the administration and there is an urgent need to hold assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and restore the statehood,” he assrted.
Singh said if an elected Govt replaces the LG administration, the issues of the people can be addressed in respectable manner by consulting the elected representatives and no harsh decision will be taken as the elected Govt is always answerable to the people. However, the bureaucracy is not answerable to the people due to which they are working in a wayward manner.
He referred to the ongoing anti-encroachment drive in Jammu and Kashmir and condemned it because the administration has targeted selected people with their ulterior motives and leaked selected to gain popularity.
He said that the drive must not target the poor and marginalized people by displacing them from their agricultural fields, land, houses or commercial places as the drive has affected the poor.
Singh also demanded revamp of development in border villages for tourism. He said border town and villages have enough potential to attract tourism and the Suchetgarh border, and Gharana Wet Land are among the tourism attractions but the authorities are not concerned about the development and improvement in road connectivity.
Senior party leaders Dr Rohit Gupta, Bodh Raj Bhagat, Ajaz Kazmi, Gurmeet Singh and Krishan Singh were also present.
