SRINAGAR, Aug 7: A senior Panchayat Conference member from Poonch, Shafiq Mir has demanded the holding of simultaneous elections for all the three-tiers in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that it was the time to set the system once for all.
In a press statement Mir said that first tier (Halqa Panchayat) elections in Jammu and Kashmir are due in November-December 2023 and Government is in preparation to hold the fresh elections. However, the term of other two tiers viz Block Development Councils and District Development Councils will be ending in 2024 and 2025, respectively, because there was one year gap in each tier elections in the past
He claimed that all the Panchayat members of Jammu and Kashmir want simultaneous elections of all the three tiers of PRI system so that the term of all the three tiers ends simultaneously in future. In this connection, large number of Panchayat members of Kashmir valley have already submitted a memorandum with state Election Commissioner  at his office in Srinagar, he added.
