Home delivery of voter slips

Jammu, Feb 28: In order to ensure maximum participation of the electorate, the State Electorate Department in a unique initiative during the ensuing 2014 Parliamentary polls would deliver voter slips at the doorsteps of people.
The Department would ensure that all the eligible voters get voting slips having all details pertaining to the polling booth and same shall be handed over to them few days prior to polling. Confirming this, Chief Electoral officer, Umar Narula said voter slips bearing all details would be delivered at residence of the entire electorate. “This is a unique initiative and has been tried earlier in few other states during earlier elections. Booth Level Officials (BLOs) shall ensure that voter slips are provide to all eligible voters at their residence and the objective is to ensure higher voter turn-out”, he added.
“The voter slip would allow a person to exercise his franchise, even if he is not in possession of photo-ID card, but his name has to be there on the voters list”, he asserted.
“Besides, the electorate is advised to check their names and other details from the voter list, which is presently available at different offices including those of Booth Level Officers (BLOs), Tehsildar and Deputy Commissioner. Besides, people can also check their details at the website of the State Electoral Department”, he said, adding, “an eligible voters shall be allowed to exercise his franchise only if his name is there in the voter’s list”.
