JAMMU, Oct 7: The Home Department of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to re-employ/re-engage retired Prosecutors in Police besides utilizing services of private law firms for augmentation of the manpower availability in the department.
Official sources said that Home Department of the J&K UT in a decision taken today resolved for considering the functional requirement of persons with Law background to effectively supervise prosecution of criminal cases by the Prosecution Department as also to render advice on legal matters in various Police offices. It further said that the need has been felt to augment the existing manpower in the Prosecution department.
For this purpose, a Policy was framed today vide Govt Order No. 231-Home of 2021, darted 7-10-2021. It was further mentioned that the policy has been notified that for the augmentation of manpower in the Prosecution Department by way of deputation of serving Government employees of the UT of J&K as well as contractual engagement of retired Prosecutors or persons with Bachelor in Law or utilization of services of the law firms. The Policy shall come into force with immediate effect and shall subsist till further orders, the Govt order said.
It further said that the process of selection against the sanctioned posts of Prosecutors in the Prosecution Department is underway in the J&K Public Service Commission which, however, will take some time to conclude. The services of these officers are required in the trial courts, Fast Track courts and expediting work in designated Anti-Corruption courts. A four member committee under DG Prosecution will engage retirees or other Law firms on contractual basis, the sources added.
