Home for Aged & Infirm celebrates birth anniversary of its founder Prabhakar

JAMMU, July 9: The management and inmates of Home for the Aged and Infirm at Ambphalla, Jammu celebrated 122nd birth anniversary of its founder Ram Nath Prabhakar today.
The function started with Hawan-Poojan. Thereafter, Prabhakar’s grand-daughter Jyoti Bhalla recited a Bhajan and paid tribute to the pious noble soul. She suggested the inmates to pay obeisance daily as a routine to seek blessings of the Almighty since this Home is properly taking care of all their daily needs of life.
President of the Society, I D Soni (former State Commissioner, J&K Bharat Scouts and Guides), paid rich tributes to Prabhakar, who retired as Head Master and devoted his life in service of the poor, aged, neglected and infirm members of the society. He described him as a great visionary who could foresee necessity of such a Home for aged and infirm persons in the ever changing society.
This Institution established on 8th June 1964 with mere one room was registered as a Society on 20th February 1965. It now has two full fledged buildings facing each other across the road link from Ambphalla Chowk to Goashala having capacity to comfortably accommodate around 90 aged persons. It has 49 inmates including 20 females at present though it has served upto 76 inmates in the past.
This Home has rendered glorious humble service for the last over 58 years to scores of poor, needy, destitute persons aged 60 years or above irrespective of their caste, creed, religion, sex or region. A Physiotherapic Care Centre has since been set up for the inmates and this facility has been extended to other senior citizens as well at nominal charges.
Besides representatives of some reputed local NGOs as well as members of the Society, patron Prem Gupta (former IGP), vice president H S Manhas, honorary secretary Vijay Bhagotra, joint secretary Vijay Gupta, managing committee members Nirmala Zutshi, Pankaj Gupta, Vinod Kumar and Sat Pal Sharma participated in the celebration.
