SRINAGAR, Dec 6: Directorate of Home Guards, Kashmir today held an impressive function to celebrate its 57th Raising Day.
On the occasion, Director Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF Kashmir read the messages of Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu, Director General Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, M. Nageshwara Rao, Chief Secretary, B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, Principal Secretary Home, Shaleen Kabra and Director General of Police, Dilbagh Singh.
A ceremonial parade was present by Home Guard volunteers from HG/CD unit Srinagar and Budgam. Director Home Guards Kashmir, Javid Hassan Bhat took the salute at the parade.
The duties and responsibilities of Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers as first responders in disaster management and mitigation were highlighted on the occasion. Their role during natural calamities, assisting civil administration, Haj and Amarnath Yatra 2019 was appreciated and applauded as well.
Annual Raising Day was also celebrated at UTDRF 2nd Battalion Headquarters Jammu in which SSP Incharge Deputy Inspector General Home guards Civil Defence and UTDRF / Director Home guards, Vikas Gupta, was the chief guest.
The function was attended by Arvinder Kotwal, DSP UTDRF 2nd Batallian, Nisha Nathyal, SSP, Commandant UTDRF 2nd Batallian Jammu, Ranjeet Kanwar, SO (Trgs) to ADGP, Shabir Ahmed, SO (Admn) to ADGP, Surinder Singh, Incharge Deputy Controller/Area Commandant Hgds Jammu, Officers and Officials of UTDRF 2nd Batallian Jammu besides Wardens and Volunteers of Civil Defence and volunteers of Hgds Jammu.
Gupta elaborately highlighted the need and purpose for creation of Home guards who act as first responder during natural and manmade disasters.
