JAMMU, Apr 6: Home Guards pinned hope from new coalition Government in the Jammu and Kashmir for redressal to their long pending demands.
Large number of Home Guards assembled outside Press Club under the banner of All J&K Home Guard Welfare Association and held protest.
Amid slogans, the protestors demanded all facilities including enhancement in their monthly salaries at par with other home guards of different States.
While addressing the gathering, Kamla Sharma, president of the Association said that the previous Governments failed to redress their issues, for which they are raising their voice for the past several years.
Sharma said that Government of Madhya Pradesh has extended all benefits to the home guards like police personnel, adding that in Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Goa and Delhi, the home guards are availing all facilities like police personnel. But it is unfortunate that the home guards in J&K have been ignored with regard to facilities at par with police personnel, she stated.
She further disclosed that during earthquake and flash-floods, home guards were deputed to sensitive places for performing duties, which they did effectively, but still they are on roads to get their legitimate demands redressed.
Kamla Sharma further disclosed that home guards are being paid Rs 545 monthly salary, which is violation of human rights.
Sharma demanded all facilities to home guards at par with police personnel and hoped that the new coalition Government in the State will redress their issues at the earliest.
Among others present were Gopal Dass, Krishan Lal, Navjot Singh, Pawan Kumari, Darshana Devi, Bilal Ahmad, Mushtaq Ahmad, Ghulam Ahmad, etc.
