Led by their president Kamla Sharma, Home Guards firstly held a protest at Mubarak Mandi complex and then in the form of a rally moved towards Governor House. They raised slogans in support of their demands which included fixation of their salaries, implementation of SC order and providing them regular duty instead of nine days in a month.
The association also demanded that the State Home Guards be provided same benefits, as is available to their counterparts in neighboring Punjab and other states. The speakers resented the negligent attitude of the State Government towards the long outstanding demands of Home Guards.
Later, some representatives of Home Guards met Governor Satya Pal Malik and apprised him of their issues and genuine demands. They told Governor that presently they are being assigned duties only nine days in a month and getting a meager amount of Rs 2700 with which they cannot give their family even bread and butter.
The Governor gave a patient hearing to the representatives of Home Guards and assured them their genuine demands will be addressed before the next popular Government took reins in the State.
