Home quarantine only after medical screening: DM Leh

*FIR lodged against 7 for protesting

LEH, May 15: Chairman DDMA/District Magistrate Leh, Sachin Kumar Vaishya and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Leh Sargun Shukla today stated that people evacuated from different parts of the country would be allowed for home quarantine after medical screening while evacuees belonging to the containment zones would be kept under institutional quarantine and will be allowed to home quarantine after their test reports come negative for COVID-19.
“The evacuees from containment zones will be kept at designated administrative quarantine centers at various locations viz, Dharma Centre, Food Craft Institute, ITI, Polytechnic hostels and District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) Campus, till the declaration of their report,” DM Leh said in a press conference.

In reference to the protest held yesterday by the people of Chuchot Yokma on under-construction bridge at Choglamsar, the DM said, “It is clear that it was not the intention of the public to protest but a lack of clarification had let some selected people to misguide the general public (to protest). The accused will be identified and action will be initiated against them for violating the law”.
SSP Leh Sargun Shukla said that there was not lathi-charge by policemen and injuries happened to some people were from the cut pieces of the under-construction bridge. “So far, we have lodged FIR against seven people and based on evidence collected from the spot others will also be identified,” she added.
DM Leh said as during the protest, people violated the social distancing norm, therefore their samples would be taken for testing. He further said that construction and practice of agriculture is not allowed in the containment zones in view of the current crisis.
It was further clarified by the DM Leh Sachin that the people coming to Ladakh from various Red, Orange and Green Zones are segregated and more than 600 personnel are deployed for surveillance of home quarantines with making 3 rounds of checking daily. “The violators of home quarantine would have to face the penalties under law,” he added.
SSP Leh said in case of violation of law, no one would be spared and shall be subject to action under the law. In case of any grievance, grouse, issue and shortage to the people of containment areas, a mechanism is already put in place where people can always contact the floated contact numbers of the patrolling party or the Incharge police posts, SHOs and PCRs.
Regarding facility centers with payment, she said that the District Administration is providing the baseline facility for people coming to Ladakh and if an individual wishes to opt for higher facility, they have to make that payment by themselves. The choice of staying with the relatives or the facilities arranged by the Administration or at higher facility centers (hotels) with payment, is with the individual.
