Jammu, May 10: The P.G.Department of Home Science (Human Development), University of Jammu today organized a parent empowerment programme on the theme “Parenting in the Early Childhood Years.” On the occasion, the first newsletter named ‘BACHPAN’ of the Surbhi Nursery School and Day Care Centre was released by Prof. Rajni Dhingra, Former Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Jammu & Prof. Neeru Sharma, Head of the Department. The newsletter is an endeavor of the faculty and students to provide scientific knowledge about child development in an easy to access and understand format. The coordinator of the programme and editor of the newsletter Dr. Sarika Manhas while elaborating on the objectives of the activity highlighted that early childhood years are critical for human development.
“Quality inputs are essential to assist all children develop to their optimal potential. Through the empowerment programme the parents are equipped to become skilled and competent. They can create better home environment for their children and can continue to drive greater parenting satisfaction,” she added.
The inviteed resource people for the program were Dr. Chand Trehan, noted Psychologist and Dr.Sangeeta Mahajan, Medical Officer, Government Ayurveda Dispensary, Bari Brahmana. Dr. Trehan through her presentation focused on making the parents capable of managing their parental roles without stress.She stated that parents need to adapt according to the changing circumstances and Situations.
Dr. Neeru Sharma, HoD underlined the importance of the parent empowerment programme. She lauded the efforts of the editorial team for the first edition of the developmental Nursery Schools newsletter.
The programme was conducted by the students of M.Sc. Human Development second semester, University of Jammu under the guidance of Dr. Sarika Manhas.
