Ladakh has been in focus. Home Minister made three visits in one month, and the Home Secretary also made two in succession, particularly to the farthest point along Line of Actual Control with China. He landed at Daulatbeg Oldi forward air strip alongwith DG ITBP. He had detailed interaction with the CEO of LAHDC. Reported softening of Indo-China border tensions, recent communal tensions in Zanskar, delayed progress in rehabilitation after August 2010 flash floods, release of Rs 82 crore to LAHDC for development of infrastructural works and overall assessment of progress of the region are the subjects on which the Home Secretary might have deliberated. The case of opening of Damchok road for trade activities with China is an important subject on which the CEO Rigzin Spalbar laid much emphasis arguing that it would give a boost to Ladakh’s economy. Ladakh is under close observation of the Union Government. This has generated a feeling among the local people that the Government is serious in mitigating their problems. Things will go through sea change once Zoji La tunnel is completed and connectivity round the year between Srinagar and Ladakh is embellished.
