Ahead of the Home Secretary’s security review, Director General of BSF Daljit Singh Chawdhary, who will be joining the meeting, reached here today and visited Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district where he was briefed on operational aspects by the senior officers.
The heads of other paramilitary forces including CRPF and Intelligence Bureau (IB) besides senior MHA officials Incharge J&K will also be joining the meeting.
“Heads of all security and Intelligence agencies engaged in anti-terror operations will be present,” sources told the Excelsior and said the meeting is scheduled to be held at Jammu Convention Centre and will last over three hours.
It will be held in two sessions. SSPs of the districts are likely to join one of the sessions.
Security of entire J&K will come under review, the sources said.
The senior security officers will give the Union Home Secretary detailed briefing on the situation and roadmap to make the Jammu region free of terrorism.
From Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Home Secretary Chandraker Bharti, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, Additional DG CID Nitish Kumar, IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Sen Tuti, IGP Kashmir V K Birdi and senior officers of BSF, CRPF and Intelligence agencies will attend the meeting.
Sources said that the Union Home Ministry is concerned about the reports of terrorists’ presence in upper reaches of Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
“A strategy is likely to be chalked out to neutralize the terrorists jointly by Army, paramilitary forces, Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Special Operations Group (SOG),”they said.
The security agencies were expecting successes in eliminating terrorists in the winter but that didn’t happen. Anticipating that the terrorists could strike at soft targets, a plan is likely to be discussed and finalized at tomorrow’s meeting to neutralize the terrorists, most of whom are Pakistanis.
However, as per the sources, it wasn’t possible for the terrorists to survive for such a long time without local support especially in getting food and other essential items.
This year so far, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed security situation in Jammu and Kashmir at three high level meetings on February 4, 5 and 11. He had also chaired a similar meeting on December 19, 2024. In less than three months, he has taken review of the UT’s security four times. The Home Secretary will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir for the second time. He reviewed security scenario in the Valley on December 30.
Sources said the roadmap for the Jammu region could include flushing out terrorists from the upper reaches. While exact number of the terrorists operating in the hills is anybody’s guess, they are reportedly moving in the groups of three to four, the reports available with security agencies suggest.
