JAMMU, May 4: Horti-culture Department organized an awareness camp for farmers at Mango village, Mallah Bharode in Khour tehsil.
The camp was attended by about 250 Mango growers from Mallah Bharode and adjoining villages. Local Sarpanch, Naresh Pal Sharma and panches were also present.
During the camp, Horticulture Development Officer (HDO), Khour, Sandeep Sharma, apprised the farmers about various schemes and subsidies being extended by the Department to the fruit growers. He said the department gives a maximum subsidy of Rs 40000 for planting Mango trees in 20 kanal of land, Rs 90000 for a borewell, besides giving 50% subsidy on Triller, pesticides and pesticide pumps.
The HDO further told the participating farmers that for construction of handling unit in the orchards, the department gives a maximum of Rs 2 lakh subsidy to the farmers. He also impressed upon the farmers to avail benefits of the various schemes of the department like MIDH, PMDP, RKVY, SMAM and PMKSY.
Sharma advised the farmers how to protect their fruit plants from various diseases and solved various technical problems of the farmers on the spot regarding establishment of an orchard. During the camp, the officer also identified 25 fruit growers for exposure visit outside the State.
