Hoshiarpur resident arrested with 865 kgs poppy straw

RAMBAN, Nov 27: Banihal police arrested a resident of Hoshiarpur along with 865 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on specific information, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a naka near Railway crossing and intercepted a Punjab bound truck bearing registration number HR55N-1368.
During checking, police recovered 865 kilograms of poppy straw concealed in apple boxes and arrested the accused.
The arrested person has been identified as Surjit Singh, son of Naseeb Chand, a resident of Tehsil Ghar Shankar, Hoshiarpur.
He was trying to smuggle the consignment to Punjab, but Banihal police thwarted its attempt by putting him behind the bars.
A case under FIR Number 192/18 has been registered at Police Station Banihal and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment.
Police team led by SHO Banihal Inspector Aijaz Ahmad Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajjad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
