DC Rajouri orders inquiry

RAJOURI, Nov 28: Medical staff at District Hospital Rajouri suspended work and held protest after a doctor was allegedly manhandled by some relatives of the accident victims admitted to the hospital two days back.
Official sources said that some relatives of accident victims from Thannamandi area undergoing treatment at DH Rajouri today held protest near main gate of the hospital alleging that accident victims were not being looked after properly by Medical staff and neither DC nor other senior officers from the District Administration visited hospital to inquire about their health condition after accident. They shouted slogans against DC and Hospital Administration.
Upon this Med Superintendent, Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajar went to them and pacified the protesting villagers. Some of them alleged that Medical staff demanded money from them. The Med Suptd asked them to identify the doctor or such staff member and an action will be taken against him/ her. However, they continued protest and did not move at all. Later, Dr Zakir who hails from that area went to the protesting people and requested them to suspend agitation and assured every possible help to them. He said since DC was busy in election process, he could not personally come there but he had directed hospital staff to provide every possible help. During this process, some youth sitting on dharna resorted to heated arguments and allegedly abused, pushed and manhandled the doctor.
Dr Zakir escaped towards hospital and narrated the matter to other staff. Upon this the doctors and other staff suspended work and sat on protest inside hospital. During staff protest, one of the youth who had allegedly beaten up doctor was also thrashed by staff when he came inside towards them. The police party had already been deployed there sensing trouble. The cops resorted to mild cane charge on protesting staff and others creating law and order problem.
Meanwhile, the DC Rajouri, Mohd Aijaz ordered inquiry and directed Addl DC, Sher Singh to submit a detailed report within three days. Tehsildar Rajouri Mehmood Reyaz and Med Suptd Dr Mehmood H. Bazar are the inquiry committee members. Later, DC also visited the hospital and talked to them.
Doctors Association Jammu, has demanded action against the people who attacked Dr Zakir and said that under such circumstances doctors can not perform their duty. The Association president Dr Balwin der demanded security for the Medical staff in hospitals.
