JAMMU, May 28: As talks between the Jammu University administration and agitating class IV employees remained inconclusive this evening, the JU Non-Gazetted Employees Union announced third phase of the ongoing token protest involving the Hostel cooks, Mess boys and Ward boys from tomorrow.
After failure of talks, NGEU president Krishan Chand Sharma said that the Union members have decided to involve all the Mess boys, cooks, Ward boys etc and no food for the boarders will be prepared in the Hostel Mess from tomorrow.
Earlier, the class IV employees and casual labourers took out a rally, which was joined by Safai Karamcharis. The protesters also torched an effigy of the JU administration for its anti-employees stance. About 700-800 employees participated in the token strike which entered into 16th-day today.
While addressing the rally, Krishan Chand Sharma accused the Jammu University authorities of adopting negative approach towards their demands and warned an indefinite complete strike if no positive action is taken within days.
Vijay Kumar Sharma, general secretary NGEU, alleged that as a pressure tactics, the JU was not adjusting 6th Pay Commission arrears of the protesting employees in their accounts while the VC was making only assurances.
The NGEU leaders appealed the Chancellor N N Vohra to intervene into the matter as they have lost the faith and credibility of the Vice Chancellor and his advisor.
