UDHAMPUR, Mar 23: Expressing serious concerns over alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu and Kashmir, National Conference additional general secretary and former minister Ajay Kumar Sadhotra expressed hope that the House Committee will conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible for mismanagement are held accountable.
Addressing a one-day convention of Block Jib Thathi at Chak, Sadhotra criticized the previous dispensation for turning the ‘Har Ghar Nal-Jal’ initiative into a hub of corruption and inefficiency. He emphasized that the Mission, which aims to provide clean drinking water, should be executed with complete transparency to benefit the people, especially the poor and marginalized sections.
With summer approaching, Sadhotra highlighted the pressing need for an advance strategy to tackle water shortages, particularly in the Jammu region, where extreme heat exacerbates the crisis. He pointed out that years of mismanagement had left several areas, including Jib, struggling for a reliable water supply.
He further stated that in many regions, pipelines were laid without ensuring proper water sources, leading to wastage of resources. He expressed hope that the House Committee would identify such lapses and recommend corrective measures to strengthen the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Reiterating the NC’s commitment to public welfare, Sadhotra assured that his party would continue to advocate for the uninterrupted supply of both drinking water and electricity across Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the Government to take urgent steps to improve the implementation of the mission.
During the event, local residents raised several pressing issues, and Sadhotra assured them that their concerns would be addressed at the appropriate forums.
Several senior party leaders including Mohd Ayub Malik, Chander Mohan Sharma, Raghubir Singh Manhas, Akash Verma, Randhir Singh, Ashwani Charak, Veer Ji, Vishwinder Singh Samyal, Ashanand, Gurmeet Singh, Abdul Rashid, Advocate K D Sharma, Manmohan Verma, Jagdish Singh, Rattan Singh, Om Parkash Bhagat and Ghulam Hasan attended the convention.
