JAMMU, Aug 2: State Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretary, Yudhvir Sethi today asked urban poor to avail benefits of Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (PMAY) and construct their own homes, the financial assistance for which is being provided by Government. He also asked party functionaries to reach out to masses and identify such urban poor who could be benefitted from this mega scheme aimed at providing housing to all.
Yudhvir Sethi was speaking during a special camp organized at Purani Mandi here to make people aware of PMAY who also filled their forms for the purpose on the spot. Special assistance was provided to urban poor by party activists who not only helped the beneficiaries but also made them aware of their right to get the financial assistance on the spot.
Yudhvir Sethi said the scheme was launched with an aim to provide affordable homes to the urban poor and this initiative is targeted at building about 20million homes by 2022. In Jammu and Kashmir State also about 19 small towns have been identified for the purpose and urban poor will be provided with financial assistance to make their homes, he informed.
Yudhvir Sethi said schemes under which people can seek benefits include beneficiary led individual house construction or enhancement, affordable housing in partnership, credit linked subsidy scheme and In-situ slum redevelopment.
Under first scheme, the BJP general secretary said assistance to individual eligible families belonging to EWS category shall be benefited by the Central assistance of Rs.1.50 lakhs and Rs.0.166 lakh as the State share for the construction of new house/enhancement with Carpet area of 30 square meters.
He said that BJP is committed to ensure that the money reaches the right beneficiary and that too without any pilferage. Unlike past where only part of a share used to reach beneficiaries, both State as well as Central Government under BJP rule are ensuring that urban and rural poor to get their due share well within the time frame for construction of their homes.
