SRINAGAR, June 10: Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra has called upon the officers of Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BAOCWWB) to settle all pending claims of the construction workers, registered with them, to ensure that beneficiary will get financial help early and in time.
He said schemes like housing, pension, skill development and group insurance will be introduced shortly for the welfare of the construction workers.
The Minister was presiding over an officers meeting of the Board, attended, among others, by Commissioner Secretary, Labour and Employment, Labour Commissioner, CEO, BAOCWWB and the districts officers of the Labour Department.
The Minister said that settlement of the claims of the construction workers need to be speed up so that this poor section of the society can receive financial assistance to meet their daily requirements. He asked them to frame the modalities of housing, pension and group insurance schemes so that these can be introduced early for the welfare of construction workers
The Minister asked the officers to visit all construction sites and see whether the firms are paying cess what they are actually supposed to remit as per the standing norms. He asked them to enforce the provisions of the Act strictly in order to generate the income of the Board, which can be utilized for the welfare of labourers.
Labour Minister instructed the officers to complete early distribution of pass books among the beneficiaries registered with the department and also sensitize them about the welfare schemes and the benefits of the initiatives taken by the Government for their welfare.
