JAMMU, Mar 22: Harbans Roshan Bhalla Educational Foundation (HREF) marked its 28th Annual Day by awarding 558 scholarships to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, with a strong focus on empowering girls from rural areas.
The event, attended by dignitaries, students, parents, and donors, saw chief guest Dr Ashutosh Gupta (Principal, GMC Jammu) and Dr Shelly Gupta presenting scholarship certificates and merit medals. Notably, 80% of the recipients were girls, reinforcing the Foundation’s dedication to women’s education.
HREF provides holistic academic support, including online tuition, evaluation tests, educational camps, and counselling sessions. The Foundation also collaborates with Bee Enn General Hospital (NABH) to offer free medical check-ups and treatments for students and their families.
Students travelled from remote villages such as Hiranagar, Chak, Rattian, RS Pura, and Kangrail to attend the event, which featured cultural performances by children. The function concluded with a traditional Dogri meal, “Preeti Bhoj,” served to over 2,500 attendees.
Managing Trustee Kunil Bhalla highlighted the Foundation’s ongoing efforts and announced that 100-150 new students are added to the scholarship program annually. He urged parents of bright but financially constrained students to apply for scholarships, reaffirming HREF’s mission to support education.
