BENGALURU: Thirteen gems of renowned film maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee will be screened during a three-day film festival dedicated to him beginning here on December 2. Organised by Pickle Jar, a Bangalore based community-led effort, the event would be graced by another Bollywood celebrity Amol Palekar.
From light-heated features like Golmaal, Chupke Chupke, Khoobsurat, to films with social relevance like Satyakam, Namak Haram, Asli Naqli, to emotional masterpieces like Anand, Anupama, and Aashirwad – Hrishida was a master storyteller and never limited himself to a particular genre, style or theme. He created his own niche of film-making which today is referred to as the ‘Middle-Cinema’ – a style that is a confluence of commercially appealing stories packaged in a parallel cinematic art form. The movies will be screened at three venues including the two cultural nerve centres of Bangalore, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) and Alliance Fran?aise de Bangalore (AFB). Suchitra Film Society located at Banashankari is the Screening Partner for the Hrishida Festival.
”Hrishida’s films carried simple narratives but made a strong impact, a style that seems to be fading away in today’s culture of blockbusters and high budget films. Through this festival, we are trying to revive the values, the idealism and the ethos that Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his films stood for” Vasanthi Hariprakash – the founder of Pickle Jar told newsmen here today.
