HSCC to oversee upcoming health institutions: Dwivedi

JAMMU, Dec 29: The work on two proposed prestigious health institutions for mother and child care at Bemina, Srinagar will begin shortly. These two health institutions have already been sanctioned by the Government.
The two hospitals will be constructed at Bemina, Srinagar over a land of 60 kanals which is a prime centrally located place, for the convenience of the patients. The maternity hospital will be funded by Central Government whereas the construction of the children hospital will be taken up with State’s resources. The Maternity hospital will be constructed at an approved outlay of Rs. 50 crore whileas the children hospital will cost about Rs. 60 crore.
Both these hospitals will be inter connected and have several common facilities for the convenience of the patients. The building plan for both these hospitals was finalised at a meeting of officers and engineers held here today under the chairmanship of Commissioner/ Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Manoj Kumar Dwivedi.
The design and other parameters of the proposed hospitals were discussed at length and experts of Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSCC), suggested some modifications, which were incorporated in the plan. The meeting gave its nod to start the work on these two projects immediately.
Mr. Dwivedi urged the experts to closely monitor the work on these projects on regular basis to ensure judicious use of funds and quality standards. He said that the HSCC will be involved in all future health projects to ensure building of quality infrastructure.
He said that construction of these new health institutions was need of the hour to provide adequate medicare facilities to the mothers and new born children. He said keeping in view this urgency, the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah had announced setting up of a maternity as well as paediatrics hospital in Srinagar. The Government subsequently started working on the project on the land identified at Bemina Bye Pass. The soil testing and ground work has already been completed for these projects.
These hospitals will cater to the healthcare needs of mothers and children exclusively. The PWD(R&B), which is the executing agency, has been given the target to complete the hospitals within two years.
After the meeting, the Chief Architect and experts also visited the proposed site of hospital at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu.

T. Mustafa and Consultants associated with the Project.
