JAMMU, Nov 7: A poetry collection in three languages, titled ‘Paani Ki Poshaakein’, authored by Vijay Saraf Meenaghe, a well known painter & Hindi poet of Jammu & Kashmir, was released here today by Hindi Sahitya Mandal (HSM), Jammu.
Prof Kiran Bakshi, former President, HSM was the chief guest whereas Dr Lalit Gupta, art critic & historian was the special guest on this occasion. Dr Ratan Lal Shant presided over the programme. Dr Chanchal Dogra, President HSM- J and Vijay Saraf Meenaghe also shared the dais.
Two papers on the content and critical evaluation of the released book were presented by Shyam Juneja (Hindi) and Dr Chanchal Bhasin (Dogri).
While speaking on this occasion, Dr Ratan Lal Shant said that the poetic and artistic works of Vijay Saraf Meenaghe and his multifaceted persona deserve appreciation in respect of the craftsmanship, diction, content, choosing & dealing with the issues and themes. He also appreciated fine translation work of the original poems in Hindi to English by Somnath Pandit and Avtar Mota, and in Dogri by Mohan Singh, Sham Raina, Chhatrapal, Shivdev Manhas, and Yashpaul Nirmal
In her address, Prof Kiran Bakshi complimented Vijay Saraf Meenaghe for creating qualitative poetry rich in appeal, its content & emotive values. She added that it’s a good sign that translation work is being done from one language to another.
Dr Lalit Gupta also expressed his views and appreciated the creative endeavours of Vijay Saraf Meenaghe. Earlier, Vijay Saraf expressed his views on his creative journey. He also recited a few of his poetical creations.
Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Uma Sharma, Literary Secretary, HSM- J. Introductory and well address were presented by Mantoo Dutta Sharma and Dr Chanchal Dogra, respectively. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Sanjiv Bhasin, Vice- President HSM.
It may be mentioned that Vijay Saraf Meenaghe has written 930 Hindi poems, 15 short stories, about 40 free verse Ghazals, about 50 Bhajans, 70 free verse couplets and 20 lyrics. His book ‘Chhadyantar’ is under the process of printing.
