Huge quantity of charas, poppy straw seized, 4 held

Srinagar, Oct 14: Police in Shopian and Pulwama today recovered huge quantity of contraband substances and arrested four persons.
A police spokesperson said that four drug peddlers have been arrested in Shopian after the Police Station Zainapora received specific information that two persons namely Abdul Hameed Sheikh, son of Gh Mohammad Sheikh and Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohammad Shaban Sheikh, both residents of Chillipora have indulged in drug peddling and hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in their residential houses.
“On receipt of this information, a Police party of PS Zainapora along with Executive Magistrate raided the specific locations. During the search, police was able to recover 189Kg’ of charas grinded leaves, 1.5Kg of charas powder and 30Kgs of poppy straw from the said residential houses,” police said.
Police said 4 accused persons have been arrested so far.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 126/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station, Zainapora and further investigation has been initiated.
In Pulwama as well, police said that the Police Station Kakapora received specific information that two persons namely Gulzar Ahmad alias Beta, son of Gh Nabi Wani and Mohd Rafiq, son of Mohd Ismail Ganaie both residents of Mohanviji Kakapora have indulged in drug peddling and have hoarded a huge quantity of narcotic substance in their residential houses.
“On receipt of this information, a Police party headed by SHO PS Kakapora along with Executive Magistrate raided the specific locations,” police said.
During the search, police recovered 27Kgs of Cannabis leaves and 28Kgs of poppy straw from the said residential house. “However, the accused persons managed to escape and efforts are on to effect their arrest,” police said.
Accordingly, cases vide FIR No. 136/2021 and FIR No. 137/2021 under relevant sections of law stand registered at Police Station Kakapora.
