Huge quantity of expired drugs recovered in Bandipora

SRINAGAR Mar 2: A huge quantity of expired drugs of about seven categories were found in the Sub Centre Gamroo village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district today.
A team of Drug Control Department raided the Sub Centre in Gamroo area of Bandipora district and recovered a huge quantity of expired medicines.
The Drug Inspector along with a team of officials recovered the expired medicines including Co-trimoxazole Bottles, D5 Gulcose bottles, Mefenamic Acid Tablets, Theophylene Tablets, 5D Gulcose bottles. They were having expiry dates as 2019 and January 2020.
“There were 7 different categories of medicines which were seized. Further investigations have been taken up,” an official said.
Locals expressed anger over the matter and said that the medicines should have been given to patients but it is unfortunate to see the medicines being dumped.
Earlier, Drugs Control Department recovered a huge quantity of medicines meant for free supply to Government hospitals supplied by Jammu & Kashmir Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (JKMSCL) from a private medical shop in Bandipora and the inquiry is still pending.
In another incident last year Bandipora Traders exposed drug scam in Bandipora and recovered huge quantity of expired drugs dumped in ANMT School Bandipora.
Locals appealed the Government to take cognizance of the matter and investigate it thoroughly so that all the accused officials are unmasked and punished for the crime.
