Huge rallies taken out in Leh, memorandum submitted to PM

LEH, Dec 18: On the initiative of Ladakh Buddhist Association, a grand rally for inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution was organized here today.
The rally, which started from Skytsags culminated at Polo Ground after passing through SNM Hospital, All India Radio, new Bus Stand areas.
Addressing the participants at Leh Polo Ground, President LBA Tsewang Thinles, President LGA Geshe Konchok Namgyal, President Anjuman-Imamia Ashraf Ali Barcha and President Anjuman-Moin-ul-Islam Sheikh Saif-ud-Din in one voice urged the Union Government to consider the long pending demand of the people of Indian Himalayan Region.
With nearly 3 million Bhoti speaking population extending from Arunachal Pradesh to Ladakh, president LBA described it as a rich language having Indian origin with educational institutions, news bulletins, newspapers and magazines, printing presses and libraries in these regions that fulfills all the criteria for inclusion in the 8th Schedule.
“Ladakhis despite being less in number have always proved beneficial and resourceful for the country in the times of need while the genuine demand of this part of the country has been constantly neglected”, he regretted.
“Bhoti language symbolizes the true identity of this region and we equally support this genuine demand”, the other speakers said.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to Deputy Commissioner Leh for onward submission to the Prime Minister.
Representative of Christian Association Elihud George, Scholar Tsewang Dorjey, President LBA Youth Wing Rinchen Namgyal, President INC Leh Tsering Samphel and President BJP Leh Tsering Dorjey Lakrook were also present on the occasion.
Similar rallies were also taken out in Nyoma, Mudh and Nidder as also in Jammu by All Ladakh Students Association.
