JAMMU, Apr 8: In a function organized today at Shree Satya Sai Sewa Kendra, Kheeray-Chak, Halqa Marh, a free medical camp for gastro and diabetic patients was organized by ‘We The Human, a registered public trust.
Dr Khalid Mehmood, MD Medicine with DNB Gastroenterology & Hepatology along with other doctors and laboratory assistants conducted free check up of patients from remote and rural areas. Free of cost medicines were also distributed among the patients.
Earlier, retired Principal District and Session Judge, Cooch Bihar West Bengal, Kanwar YS Manhas, who was the chief guest on the occasion, released newsletter of the Trust.
The occasion was also used by ‘We The Human’ to distribute financial aid to few orphan children and widow ladies of the area. Awards for achievement were also given to many females viz. Shilpa Mahajan (educationist from Akhnoor), Gul-e-Surkhab (an international gold medal winner in Judo and other sports events), Shivani Anand (Hindi writer and poetess) for winning Urvashi Samman for her book “Meray Khayal Kehtay Hain” and Sonakshi Devi (National junior Gold Medalist in Judo).
The Trust officials, chief guest, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and officials from SKUAST also made the people aware about excessive use of toxic chemical pesticides, insecticides, herbicides and fungicides in agriculture and exhorted farmers to shift back to traditional system of agricultural farming.
They asked the agriculture department and food safety organizations to launch a campaign against fruits & vegetables having impermissible levels of toxic and harmful chemical residues. They also lamented about poor condition of river Tawi in Jammu and river Devika in Udhampur.
