Human Society Vs Human Nature

Prof Javed Mughal
Life, dictated by a proportionate combination of checks and balances, is off-course an abode of peace of mind and a solace of heart for an individual and a source of strength for the society as well.  “Excess of everything is bad” is quite a fit and meaningful adage even today when countless maxims and dictums have lost their relevance and meaning due to a radical change in human nature. It is a universal behavior of mankind that the moment your security of whatever sort is fully guaranteed; you are most likely to go astray, reluctant and thick-skinned to many vital issues. Exceptions are always there and everywhere but my stand point of view is based on my healthy experience of life. When you are fully secure in respect to your survival, you become the most comfortable, doing nothing, puffing out cigars, sitting in a comfy chair day in and day out, gossiping, eating, drinking and moving not even an inch despite the fact that this despicable and suicidal habit gets stronger and stronger to consume your life one day but even then you don’t care simply because you want to be comfortable in life and off course it is not your fault because this attitude is very much inbred into the very mankind.
Even prophets could not have an escape from this comfort-loving urge but because they were the exceptional iconic beings and they had to set an account for their followers, they avoided it and controlled this inner-most weakness. All the discoveries and inventions were carried out by the scientists only because they wanted to be comfortable. Basically the entire scientific and technological advancement is the by-product of an innate hunger for comfort. All inventions and discoveries have been made just to save the humanity from hard-work and toil. Hence complete security of survival is detrimental to the security of the collective existence of society. Pulls and pressures must always be there and man should be accountable at every tick of clock for his deeds to the system and punishments must be there every now and then in a point-blank fashion. There is no any other way-out to streamline this small statured human being having a boundless capacity even to destroy this globe with a single stroke.
One must not forget that this human being is so complex and inexorable that even God had to depute and appoint number of prophets and agents endowed with exceptional qualities of head and heart to shape him properly but even then this lump of flesh and blood could not be chiseled up in a desired direction. Under such circumstances, the laws of Medes and Persians are the need of the hour to rail up this creature and extract its faculties for the common welfare. Unnecessary relaxation, unremitting freedom, all-time accommodating stance and the total guarantee of any kind can nowise be so fruitful as the restriction, discipline, stringent surveillance and tough control when we come to the point of generating result oriented performance. This fact can be proven by a comparative study of the working-fashion in the Public and the Private sectors at present taking in India. In Public sectors, we have more potent, trained and intelligent lot of workers in comparison to those in Private sectors but the graph of performance over there is much lower whereas in Private Sector we have less qualified workers but their performance is off course colossal and praiseworthy.
The difference only consists in the modes operandi and the system of work and control. Now-a-days in Private sector, where potential of the workers is duly paid by the feeding companies, the workers have been subjected to the strict conditions of services and a worker can lose his job and source of survival even on account of a small misdemeanor and the same mechanism of the private sector keeps the system and the workers fully updated, in radiant health, and prolific as well. But unfortunately this fashion of working has deliberately been eliminated from the public sector and replaced by the white collar culture, red-tapism and officialism resulting into the routine-negligence, stereo-typed dereliction of duties, mushrooming of corruption and scam culture biting into the very infra-structure of the country’s all over existence. Both private and the public sectors need to imbibe each other’s one basic quality to make long strides in the domain of progress i.e. the habit of accountability, transparency, regularity, punctuality and work culture of the private sector need to cultivated by the public sector and the level of efficiency, potential, managerial technocracy, and the quality of training of the public sector has to be adopted by the Private Concerns. I believe that in the absence of one the other is useless.
The training, the efficiency, the management techniques are of no use if you are not sincere and honest and similarly all efficiency, honesty, accountability and work culture are futile if the required potential and know-how is not available with you. A man who is intelligent but dishonest is as insignificant as a man who is honest but not intelligent. Both, the one who is a balanced combination of both the intelligence and the honesty, can prove to be a boon for the nation. One who has knowledge but does not have the sense of genuine responsibility is a Satan and who is an honest but does not have knowledge is an impractical fellow and thereby both are detrimental to the society. But unfortunately now-a-days a majority of our responsible lot is made of satanic and idiotic stuff. Our society is replete with two kinds of lot–first who can contribute but are not true to their conscience and to the system and secondly the one who wish to do something for the society and humanity but is not capable of doing so. In the ideal state of Plato, both of these categories deserve to be hanged because in Platonic Ideal state none sans the solid capacity to contribute is allowed to breathe any more. Hence it is time for us to decide as to what to do to rail up the derailed system. It needs extra-ordinary guts by the thinking lot of the society and the ones sitting on dais of power to bring about a cataclysmic change in the social set up. It is not basically a criminal who is to be blamed wholly-solely for all the nonsense happening around but the criminal silence of those in fact who can think and feel and do something well in time. Our thinkers are not required to comment and contemplate on what is happening in the US or the UK. We should desist from projecting ourselves on media regarding the economic depression in America or elsewhere because these countries have plenty of thinkers, scholars and analysts to do the needful. We must, first of all, think about what we are doing and where we are heading in the second decade of 21st century when the west is meddling with heights of sky in the domain of their progress and prosperity. First we must work on the best we can do for our own country from micro to macro level and when we are self sufficient and fully safe and sound, then we can try to extend our unsought cooperation to others. At present we ourselves are wading through maze of hydra-headed issues, it shall be queer to educate others instead of educating ourselves.
