SRINAGAR:Though the mercury was normal, humid and hot weather continued in the Kashmir valley despite fresh overnight rain and thundershowers.
Interestingly, the summer capital, Srinagar, received more rain than world famous ski resort of Gulmarg and famed health resort of Pahalgam.
A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be scattered or isolated rainfall or thundershowers in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region during the next six days. However, Ladakh region could witness isolated rain during the next 24 hours before the weather will turn dry during subsequent five days.
It was yet another cloudy and rainy night with thundershowers in the Kashmir valley, where the maximum and minimum temperature remained almost normal.
Though the people woke up to rainy morning, but the weather turned dry but humid and sun was playing hide and seek in the valley, including the capital city, Srinagar.
The Met spokesman said Srinagar recorded 7.8 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs, more than what has been witnessed elsewhere in the valley.
The minimum temperature witnessed a drop of about a notch in the city due to rains. Against yesterday’s 19.1 degrees, it was 18.3 degrees, slightly above normal.
He said there could be light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 degrees and 17 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours in Srinagar.
Gulmarg, which attracts large number of tourists, including those who had returned after paying obeisance at holy Amarnath cave shrine, recorded 12.5 degrees minimum temperature, half a notch above normal after 4.2 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours.
Pahalgam, base camp of Amarnath pilgrimage recorded more than two degree drop in the night temperature though it was still above normal after 1.4 mm rainfall during the night. Against yesterday’s 18.8 degrees minimum temperature, it was 16.4 degree, still three notches above normal resulting in melting of snow on upper reaches.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir on Srinagar-Jammu national highway and Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, did not record any rain with the result the minimum temperature remained two to three degrees above normal.
Kupwara, a border district in north Kashmir also recorded 3.8 mm rainfall during the night, he said adding but there was no change in the mercury which remained two notches above normal. Leh in Ladakh region also recorded 5.2 mm rainfall till 0830 hrs though the minimum temperature witnessed a slight surge. Against yesterday’s 16.2 degrees, it was 16.5 degrees.
He said the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 27 degrees and 16 degrees respectively at Leh tomorrow.
At border town of Kargil on Srinagar-Leh national highway, the minimum temperature ws 13.6 degrees against yesterdays 14.8 degrees.
However, heavy rain or thundershowers would occur in Jammu where the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 31 degrees and 25 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. (AGENCIES)
