Humid weather in J & K despite rain

SRINAGAR : Despite rain and cloudy sky, weather was humid in the Kashmir valley, where fairly widespread and scattered rain is predicted for the next six days.

North Kashmir, including ski resort of Gulmarg and Kupwara received heavy rain causing flood-like situation in some areas.

Though the minimum temperature witnessed a drop in some areas in the Valley but it was still above normal.   A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there could be fairly widespread, scattered and widespread in the Kashmir valley and Jammu region during the next six days.

However, in Ladakh wet weather is predicted during the next 24 hours followed by dry weather during subsequent 48 hours.

Kupwara in north Kashmir received highest 19.7 mm rainfall during the past 24 hours, disrupting normal life. Flood-like situation prevailed in some areas. The minimum temperature recorded an increase. Against yesterday’s 18 degrees Celsius was 19.5 degrees, the spokesman said.       Similarly, Gulmarg also received 12.3 mm rainfall though the minimum temperature remained at 13.2 degrees, a notch above normal. Water-level in water bodies has increased in Gulmarg and Tangmarg.

Despite cloudy weather and 1.7 mm rainfall during the night, the minimum temperature in the summer capital, Srinagar, remained half a notch above normal. However, it was a degree less than yesterday.

The spokesman said there could be light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 26 degrees and 17 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours in the city.

Qazigund received 2.6 mm, Pahalgam 2 mm and Kokernag 2.7 mm rainfall during the night, he said, adding the minimum temperature remained above normal.

Leh in Ladakh region also received 10.4 mm rainfall resulting drop in the temperature. Against yesterday’s 15.7 degrees, it was 12.5 degrees.

There is possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 25 degrees and 16 degrees respectively in Leh.

He said light rain or thundershowers is predicted and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30 degrees and 23 degrees respectively. (AGENCIES)
