SRINAGAR:Weather turned humid after rain and hailstorm at several places in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, where hottest day and night were recorded yesterday.
A Met department spokesman said parts of the Kashmir Valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, received heavy showers accompanied by hailstorm last night after witnessing hottest day and night of the summer so far.
Though minimum temperature witnessed a drop after the rain, the weather was humid, forcing people to use fans, water coolers and AC during the past few days for the first time this summer, the valley where people are observing fast.
The spokesman said there could be scattered, fairly widespread and isolated rain in the Valley and Jammu region during the next five days followed by scattered and isolated rain till July 12. After overnight rain people woke up to a cloudy and humid weather today as sun was playing hide and seek, though shining brightly some time.
There was however, drop in the minimum temperature in the valley, he said. In the summer capital, where traffic police has launched a drive against bikers not wearing crash helmets continued to record above normal temperature.
He said against yesterday’s minimum temperature of 21.9 degrees celsius, it was 20.7 degrees, still three notches above normal despite receiving 6.1 mm rainfall last night.
There is a possibility of light rain or thundershowers and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 30 degrees and 15 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours in the city. (AGENCIES)
