JAMMU, Mar 5: The agitating Contractual Lecturers, who are observing fast unto death since February 14, was today shifted to GMC Hospital Jammu as their condition was deteriorating while the ongoing hunger strike by All J&K Contractual Lecturers (10+2) Forum entered into 20th day and fresh group of agitators began their chain hunger strike.
The protesting lecturers today also held a demonstration at the venue of hunger strike near Press Club and alleged that callous attitude of the Government towards their genuine demand was forcing them to continue their struggle and hunger strike. They are demanding their regularization as per the Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a policy framed for the regularization of all the ad-hoc/contractual/consolidated employees after rendering seven years of service.
While addressing the gathering, Arun Bakshi , State president of the Forum, appealed the Government to implement all the orders, which were issued by then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed led Government. “The incumbent Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has announced that she wants to carry forward the vision of her father and for the same, she should implement the orders issued during the tenure of Late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as then CM, for absorbing the Contractual Lecturers,” he said.
One of the senior contractual lecturers, Vinod Kumar, who is on fast unto death since February 14, was shifted to GMC Hospital as his condition was deteriorating day by day. However, according to the Forum, he refused to take any treatment.
Meanwhile, Sulinder Verma, Rakesh Kumar, Sarooj Sharma, Hibba -Tenoor, Anjum Un Nisa began their chain hunger strike on Sunday. They also threatened to go for fast unto death if the Government does not concede their demand at an earliest.
A team of social activists, led by Dr Amina Sheikh, also visited the venue of hunger strike and assured full support to agitating Contractual Lecturers.
