Srinagar, Sept 30: The hunger strike of National Youth Corps (NYC) employees who are demanding implementation of Cabinet order today completed one month but the end to the protest is nowhere in sight.
Scores of NYC employees are camping at Pratap Park in Lal Chowk – the commercial hub of Valley – from September 1st. The NYC employees are since then on hunger strike and are demanding implementation of a Cabinet order passed by former coalition Government of National Conference and Congress vis-à-vis their induction into various Government departments.
However the present coalition Government of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) has not implemented the order so far despite several assurances to the NYC employees.
The president of NYC Association, Asif Ali Bhat told Excelsior more than 100 hunger strike protesters were hospitalized since the beginning of their protest. He said there is no response from the Government despite the assurance of Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu who visited them earlier this month.
Bhat said that they will not end their protest on just verbal assurance but they want written assurance from the Government.
The female NYC employees also joined their counter-parts in the day time. Besides, the NYC employees from Jammu have also been part of the protest.
