SRINAGAR, Aug 15:  The hard-line faction of Hurriyat Conference today threatened to launch a massive agitation if restrictions are not immediately removed over the movement of its chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani. The conglomerate threatened that people would come on roads, lodge protests and seek Geelani release.
Spokesman of the hard-line faction of Hurriyat Conference, Ayaz Akbar today said that Government should allow Geelani to address the congregation of people on Jumat-ul-Vida (last Friday of holy month of Ramzan) and also take part in the Eid celebrations. Ayaz said that Geelani has been caged within his own house and is not being allowed to move out.
“Geelani Sahib would offer the Jumat-ul-Vida prayers at Bait-ul-Mukaram Masjid in Baramulla. On Eid, he would go to Hazratbal and offer the prayers. The Government should immediately remove the police cordon around his house. If they fail to remove it, people would come out in protest seeking release of their popular leader. The Government alone would be responsible for the consequences,” said Ayaz.
Ayaz said that Geelani would address people both at Baramulla and Hazratbal adding that people should come to the venues and listen to the speech of chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference. He said that important religious days like Jumat-ul-Vida and religious festivals like Eid are important for a Muslim and there should be no restrictions on the movement of Muslims on these days.
