UDHAMPUR, May 19: Police have solved the mysterious death case of a young housewife Pushpa Devi, who was found hanging at the house of her in-laws at Kalmah-Pathwar in Majalta, Udhampur on May 16.
Police have arrested husband of Pushpa Devi, Bansi Lal and her sister-in-law Sheela Devi for abetment to suicide by torturing the deceased.
During the course of inquest proceedings, police recorded the statements of the witnesses and also obtained Doctor’s preliminary report and came to the conclusion that the young housewife had committed suicide by hanging herself to death after being brutally tortured by her husband and sister-in-law. On the fateful day, just before suicide, Pushpa was brutally beaten up by her husband and sister-in-law while she had also contacted her brother telephonically to come to her rescue. However, before her brother could reach, she committed suicide after locking the door from inside and hanging herself to death with her ‘duppatta’. Doctor’s preliminary report also confirmed that the neck of deceased was elongated, ligature marks found on the neck and hyoid bone of neck was fractured which indicates that the cause of death was due to hanging.
Following these revelations, Police have converted the inquest into FIR under Sections 306/498A/RPC for further interrogation of the accused and investigations into the case.
