Retd IGP among several contacts of cop sent for quarantine

JAMMU, Apr 10: Two more family members of the deceased woman of village Tikri in Udhampur district and a Tablighi Jamaat activist from Kolkata putting up at Sunjwan on the outskirts of Jammu today tested positive for COVID-19 taking total number of positive members of woman’s family to six and cases across the Jammu region to 39.
Meanwhile, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) today said all Emergency services have been stopped in Narayana Hospital at Kakryal in Katra where OPD services were already suspended.
SMVDSB CEO Ramesh Kumar told the Excelsior that all staff members of the Hospital who had attended COVID positive woman of Tikri, who died later in the GMC Jammu, have been sent for quarantine. While OPD services in the hospital were already shut, the Emergency services have also been stopped, Kumar said, adding the patients have been given mobile telephone numbers of the doctors for any consultation.

Husband and son (PSO of retired IGP) of the 62-year old woman, who had died due to Coronavirus becoming first casualty of the pandemic in Jammu region on Wednesday, today tested positive for COVID-19.
Yesterday, woman’s daughter-in-law, two granddaughters (both minors) and a cousin, who was putting up in her neighbourhood at Tikri in Udhampur district, were tested positive for Coronavirus.
A total of seven family members including the deceased woman have been tested positive for COVID-19 so far. Six of them have been shifted to isolation ward of the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. They were asymptomatic.
The district administration in Udhampur has declared Tikri, Lehnu, Jamara, Mand East and Mand West as Containment/Red Zones and their surrounding areas as Buffer Zones restricting in and out movement of the people there.
“Complete lockdown in Udhampur town and adjacent areas to continue. 4 Red Zones in Udhampur. Public advised to wear masks in Red Zone. Essential Services Employees to stay in Udhampur, no commutation allowed,” Deputy Commissioner Piyush Singla said in a tweet.
All family members and contacts of the woman have been kept in administrative quarantine and are being subjected to sample testing.
Meanwhile, the retired IGP and his family members, putting up at Bhatindi with whom deceased woman’s son was posted as PSO, have also been sent for quarantine and subjected to sample testing. More contacts of the woman and her PSO son have either been traced or are being traced for quarantine and sample testing.
A 65 years old man, who was contact of a Tablighi Jamaat activist from Kolkata putting up at Sunjuwan on the outskirts of Jammu also tested positive for COVID-19 today. He was already under quarantine and now has been sent to the isolation ward of the hospital.
With three more positive cases, total number of Coronavirus patients in Jammu region has climbed up to 39.
Udhampur district has highest number of 17 Coronavirus cases, Jammu 6 and Rajouri three. Thirteen Coronavirus patients in Jammu region belonged to other States/UTs including three from the Union Territory of Ladakh, all of whom have been treated and discharged, while rest were Tablighi Jamaat cadre from Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra.
Of 39 cases, number of active cases stood at 35 with three recoveries and one casualty.
Meanwhile, the Union Territory administration in Ladakh today received reports of nine samples sent for testing and all of them were negative.
Ladakh has 15 positive cases for COVID-19 but 11 of them have been treated and discharged leaving number of active cases to four only.
Meanwhile, as lockdown continued, there was not let up in the problems being suffered by local people at various places with authorities further curtailing the opening hours for the shops selling essential commodities.
People at various places across the region said the shops of essential commodities were opening for few hours only and they had to face lot of problems in procuring the items required by them. They said the shops selling grocery, vegetables and medicines should be kept open throughout the day so that the people don’t suffer.
Meanwhile, more people were today released from the quarantine centres in Samba and Kathua districts and sent to their homes in Government buses after completion of their quarantine period.
