LOS ANGELES, June 1: ‘Capote’ star Philip Seymour Hoffman has revealed that he forced himself to check into rehab for ten days last month as he started taking heroin again.
The Oscar-winning actor, who has battled substance abuse in the past, says he succumbed to his old ways after 23 years of staying clean, and forced himself to spend ten days in a detox facility, reported TMZ online.
The 45-year-old star said that his problems began more than a year ago when he started abusing prescription pills, which escalated into snorting the illegal substance.
The actor, who has ten-year-old son Cooper and daughters Tallulah, 6, and Willa, 4, with his partner Mimi O’Donnell, has credited his ‘great group of friends and family’ for helping him through the tribulation and is already back at work filming his next movie in Europe.
Hoffman has previously opened up about his troubled past, suggesting his dependency on drugs and alcohol wasn’t ‘just a phase’.
“It was pretty bad, you know what I mean. And I know, deep down, I still look at the idea of drinking with the same ferocity that I did back then. It’s still pretty tangible. I was young, I drank too much, you know, so I stopped. You know what I mean, it’s not really complicated. I had no interest in drinking in moderation,” he had said.
“And I still don’t. Just because all that time’s passed doesn’t mean maybe it was just a phase. That’s who I am.” (PTI)
