I-Day celebrated with patriotic fervour across Ladakh region

LEH/ kargil, Aug 16: With great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour the 67th Independence Day of the country was celebrated in the Ladakh region.
In Leh district, the main function was held at Polo Ground where Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar unfurled the National Tri-colour amidst the large gathering of people, invitees and contingent of police, paramilitary and school children.
Addressing the gathering, CEC said that Independence Day is a moment to remember the freedom fighters, who gave supreme sacrifices to free our country from the clutches of British rule. He stressed that this occasion is a day to take commitment to serve our country and contribute our bit in the development and progress of the nation.
Highlighting the achievements of LAHDC, Spalbar made a mention of over Rs 1000 crore worth developmental works currently going on in Leh district, 3582 farmers of Leh district being provided with very low interest loan of Rs 28.50 crore under KCC scheme, opening of Rural Haat in Leh as a big step to resolve the marketing problem for the local farmers and guarantying 100% vegetable supply of locals to Army ensuring good price on the initiative of the Council.
He credited the administration headed by the DC, Simrandeep Singh for smooth and effective functioning of all the administrative departments working well in collaboration with the Council.
Among the prominent present on the occasion were Executive Councilor Agri, Sonam Dorjey, Executive Councilor Animal Husbandry, Gyurmet Dorjey, Executive Councilor Health Dr Sonam Wangchuk, Executive Councilor Tourism, Mohd Shafi Lassu, MLC Leh Norbu Gyalson, DC Simrandeep Singh, SSP Vivek Gupta, heads of political, religious and social organizations and district officers.
In Kargil district the main function was held at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium Biamathang where Deputy Commissioner/Chief Executive Officer, LAHDC, Kargil Fida Hussain hoisted the National Flag and took salute at march past comprising of contingents of Jammu and Kashmir Police, NCC, Army and Civil Band Party and troupes of Government and private schools.
Chief Executive Councilor LAHDC Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan, Executive Councilor Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, Superintendent of Police Kargil Sujit Kumar, Councilors of LAHDC, senior civil and Army officers and leaders of various political parties were present on the occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Executive Officer congratulated the Nation on this occasion and termed Independence as the result of the sacrifices made by the martyrs. Along with the country Kargil has also developed in all fields and the outcome of the same can be seen by the well built roads, schools and health centers in all villages of Kargil.
He also appreciated the Army for guarding the borders of the country, especially in difficult and inhospitable conditions and extolled the role of the Army and the security forces for their valor and alertness.
