MUMBAI : Actress Vidya Balan, who went through a patch in her career due to a series of flops, might just bounce back with her upcoming release “Kahaani 2” as she is a talent powerhouse, feels director Sujoy Ghosh.
“I don’t think one can question her talent. Even her performance in the so called bad films was better than of lot of people I know. Sometimes we all go wrong in choosing scripts. Even I went wrong with ‘Home Delivery’, ‘Aladdin’. I think she chose to do ‘Kahaani’ with the same instinct as other films. Nobody knows whether a film will work or not,” Sujoy said.
Sujoy and Vidya surprised audience with their 2012 sleeper superhit of the year “Kahaani”. Now the duo is back with “Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh” that hits cinema houses on December 2.
“While writing the second part of ‘Kahaani’ I only had Vidya in mind. ‘Kahaani’ brand is synonymous with Vidya, it is not synonymous with me.
“Tomorrow the ‘Kahaani’ will change but Vidya will not. It was always Vidya. The kind of character it is, it demanded Vidya. She was the apt choice. It’s a different story and each film has its own demand. This film demanded Arjun Rampal so we had him,” he added.
The two were seen as the best director-actor ‘jodi’ but there were reports of a fallout. However, Ghosh rubbishes the it.
“There was hardly a fall out, anything that gets patched up in five seconds is not a fall out, it is something extremely stupid and childish. I don’t think we had a fall out, we were little stupid with each other and that cost us one and half year,” he said.
Ask him who acted that way, Ghosh said, “I think both of us. I think it is mature enough of Vidya to come and patch up as I couldn’t do it. It was silly. I wish we had chatted earlier.
“I think both of us were unreasonable. Any relationship whether it’s of a mother-son or husband-wife or friends the moment you start expecting unrealistic things from each other trouble starts. It happens with our loved and closed ones.”
The “Jhankar Beats” director, however, says the script of “Kahaani 2” was not the reason behind the fall out.
“No it (fall out) had nothing to do with ‘Kahaani 2’. This script came much later,” he added. (AGENCIES)
