The event, led by Dr Arvind Kohli, a renowned Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon from Government Medical College Jammu, has attracted over 80 leading thoracic surgeons, consultants, and young medical professionals from across the country.
The CME, which focuses on advancements in lung surgery, was inaugurated with the lighting of the traditional lamp by Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College Jammu.
Dr Gupta lauded the initiative, emphasizing its importance for medical students, residents, and young surgeons aspiring to specialize in thoracic surgery. He also expressed gratitude for hosting the event in Jammu, marking it as a significant achievement for the region’s healthcare community.
A representative from IACTS congratulated Dr Arvind Kohli for bringing the prestigious CME to Jammu, highlighting the event’s value in providing local doctors with exposure to cutting-edge practices in thoracic surgery.
According to him, the programme that included hands-on workshops on Video-Assisted Thoracic Surgery (VATS) and Vascular Anastomosis, along with a specialized workshop on Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS), will help the young students and surgeons learn the intricacies of the surgery.
Another IACTS representative said that IACTS, a 72-year-old organization, conducts regular CME programs across the country to train cardio-surgeons.
The Jammu edition, according to him, was a milestone, featuring robotic surgery and video-assisted thoracic surgery sessions.
“These innovations were introduced to inspire young surgeons and help them gain hands-on experience in advanced lung surgery techniques,” he said.
One of the key highlights of the conference was a live symposium organized in collaboration with the Society of Thoracic Surgery (STS), USA, featuring international experts Dr Jessica Donington and Dr Madhuri Rao.
The symposium focused on enhancing surgical skills and embracing evidence-based practices in thoracic surgery. Dr Arvind Kohli expressed his gratitude for the support of national and international experts, acknowledging their contributions to the success of the CME.
