IB Insp, Naib Tehsildar, 22-yr-old girl among 28 more COVID deaths in Jammu

JAMMU, May 5: Jammu and Kashmir today recorded highest-ever 52 COVID casualties and 4716 positive cases in a day even as 2338 patients recovered from the virus. Jammu region continued to account for more fatalities than Kashmir reporting 28 deaths and 1518 cases. Six districts in the region reported fresh positives in three digits indicating spread of the virus in semi-urban and rural belts.
Among 28 COVID casualties in Jammu region, 13 were women including a young girl, an Intelligence Bureau (IB) Inspector, a Naib Tehsildar, a woman carrying eight-month pregnancy, one mentally-deranged female and a man from Chhattisgarh. Seventeen deaths were reported in Jammu district, five Samba, two each Poonch and Rajouri and one each in Kathua and Kishtwar districts.
A young 22-year-old girl from Bishnah died of COVID Pneumonia in the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu today. She had no other ailment. A 26-year-old woman from RS Pura, who was eight month pregnant, also succumbed to the virus in the GMC.
Thirty eight-year-old IB Inspector Gurjeet Singh, originally a resident of Sai Kulan Tangali in Suchetgarh and now residing at Greater Kailash died of COVID-19 at a private hospital here while around 40-year-old Naib Tehsildar Abdul Gani, posted at Harni Mendhar in Poonch district, who was a resident of Kallar Katal Surankote in Poonch district breathed his last due to Coronavirus in the GMC Jammu. A 35-year-old man from Bari Brahmana and 31-year-old woman from Poonch were among the young COVID victims.
A 45-year-old man from Chhattisgarh, who was putting up at Bari Brahmana in Samba district, passed away due to COVID-19. Around 50-year-old mentally deranged unknown woman died of COVID-19 in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district. Ambulance driver Mir Ahmad cremated her as people didn’t come forward for cremation.
Other deaths in Jammu district include 71-year-old woman from Lamipuram Chinore, 72-year-old man from Roop Nagar, 52-year-old male from Model Town Gangyal, 40-year-old woman from Gandarwan Akhnoor, 46-year-old man from Rehari Colony, 68-year-old man from Om Nagar Udheywala, 70-year-old man from Canal Road, 65-year-old woman from Pacca Danga, 50-year-old lady from Channi Himmat, 50-year-old female from Bishnah, 57-year-old woman from Muthi and 80-year-old male from RS Pura.
Other Corona casualties include 65-year-old man and 55-year-old woman from Bari Brahmana in Samba, 40-year-old woman from Vijaypur Samba, 58-year-old female from Hakeem Morh Mendhar in Poonch, 70-year-old woman from Kandoo Mohalla Kishtwar, 61-year-old man from Bajnowa Nowshera, 78-year-old male from Thanna Mandi Rajouri and 51-year-old woman from Jagatpur Kathua.
Twenty eight casualties today took number of total COVID deaths in Jammu region to 1034, the maximum 568 being from Jammu district, 78 Rajouri, 70 Doda, 69 Udhampur, 67 Kathua, 65 Samba, 44 Poonch, 30 Ramban, 23 Kishtwar and 20 in Reasi district.
Among 1518 fresh COVID positive cases in the region, Jammu district continued to report maximum with 598 new positives followed by 175 in Rajouri, which has become fresh hotspot, Udhampur 165, Kathua 158, Samba 124, Ramban 102, Poonch 92, Kishtwar 39, Reasi 37 and Doda 28.
Doctors and officials said large number of cases in Udhampur, Rajouri, Samba and Ramban were pouring in from rural areas. In Kathua also, apart from Lakhanpur, the gateway to Jammu and Kashmir, several cases have been reported from semi-urban and rural belts apart from Kathua town.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Thakur Sher Singh said out of 175 cases in Rajouri, 62 were reported from Kalakote, 37 Sunderbani, Darhal 26, Nowshera 15 and Koteranka four besides 31 in Rajouri. In Poonch also 48 cases were reported from Mendhar, 39 Mandi, 20 Haveli and 18 Surankote. In Gran Morh Reasi, 15 cases were reported while in another village, five fresh cases were detected. Gran Morh has been declared as micro Containment Zone by the district administration.
At the same time, 544 patients recovered from the virus today, the highest being 305 in Jammu district, 117 Kathua, 49 Reasi, 31 Kishtwar, 18 Rajouri, 14 Udhampur and five each in Doda and Ramban districts.
Jammu region’s Corona tally has gone up to 76180 and active cases to 14076. As many as 61070 persons have recovered from the virus and there have been 1034 casualties.
Meanwhile, several tested positive in the Government offices today in Jammu including six in the office of Director Industries, two at Chief Engineer Mechanical Engineering Division Vikram Chowk and one each in the offices of Director Information and Director Floriculture. A Block Medical Officer (BMO) in Akhnoor and a constable at Police Station Akhnoor also tested positive.
Twenty eight workers tested positive for the virus at Monalisa Hallmark factory at Bari Brahmana in Samba district. One worker each from Lupin and M Core factories were also found infected.
Director Health Services Jammu Dr Renu Sharma today declared District Hospital Samba as COVID Hospital. She has written to CMO Samba Dr Sanjay Turki to shift non-COVID patients to AH Vijaypur. The ESIC Hospital Bari Brahmana will also function as COVID Hospital\ while Kristu Jyoti Hospital Samba will function as Normal Emergency/Non-COVID Hospital.
District Magistrate Jammu Anshul Garg has declared extension of micro-Containment Zone Preet Nagar from Tent Wala Gurudwara to Tagore Public School in Ward No. 45 up to Pump Wali Gali and adjoining areas of Ward No. 56 after COVID positive cases were reported there.
Meanwhile, three women died of COVID-19 in Leh district today while 245 more persons tested positive for the virus in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
A 65-year-old woman from Kangdum, 74-year-old from Phyang and 80-year-old from Leh town succumbed to Coronavirus in Leh today taking death toll to 151—107 in Leh and 44 in Kargil.
Among 245 fresh cases, 199 were reported in Leh and 46 in Kargil district.
Ladakh UT’s Corona cases have gone up to 14560. Among them, 1374 are active positives while 13035 have recovered.
The district administration Leh has imposed Corona curfew in Leh district from 9 pm Thursday to 5 am Monday.
