JAMMU, Sept 26: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Union Ministry of External Affairs, Regional Office, Jammu & Kashmir, as a part of its cultural activities hosted a special programme celebrating “Unity in Diversity” by a renowned bollywood celebrity artist Rohit Bhat and Party under “Horizon Series” at Abhinav Theatre, Jammu.
A gathering of bollywood artists, music lovers and other audience witnessed the mesmerizing show with boundless fervor. The programme began with lighting of ceremonial lamp by chief guest, Chander Mohan Gupta (Mayor, JMC) along with NK Shil, Regional Director ICCR and Regional Passport Officer. Bollywood fame Kashmira Shah, Ayub Khan and other dignitaries were also present.
NK Shil, while presenting welcome address, said that objective of ICCR, a cultural wing of MEA is to primarily seek to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy through cultural and educational initiatives/ exchanges.
Shil also emphasized at length on strengthening the unity in diversity in our pluralistic society while pointing out how interdependence among communities are increasing day by day. So, he harped on the importance of exchange of culture of one community/nation with others for deepening the understanding of social foundation of each community based on the traditions, beliefs, customs, rituals, languages, food habits, etc.
He stressed on the need of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of J&K. Further, he went on to add that the higher motive of ICCR is to make viable efforts to fetch the whole nation together through cultural initiatives and at the same time, encourage local culture, provide opportunity to local talents in the field of art, music, dance & drama.
In conclusion, he urged the younger generation and society to come forward to promote and preserve the ethnically rich, diverse culture and heritage of J&K UT.
