ICCR completes one year in Jammu

JAMMU, May 30: The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs Government of India, organized 22 major cultural events during its one year journey in Jammu, including international presentations.
This was informed here today by the Regional  Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur, in a press briefing at its headquarters here on the occasion of ICCR’s completion of one year in Jammu. He told the media persons that a series of programmes would be organized to mark the occasion.
Giving details,  Balwant Thakur said that ICCR’s Jammu Regional Centre was inaugurated by Dr Karan Singh, president of ICCR on May 25, 2012 and within a span of one year ICCR has established Jammu as an International destination of cultural happenings.
“In one year, ICCR organized 22 major cultural events including three International presentations. During this period a cultural troupe of Jammu also went for cultural presentations to Central Asian Countries and visited Kazakhstan and Kirgizstan”, he said.
He further said that during last one year 18 programmes were organized under Horizon series of ICCR Jammu.
The eventful year also witnessed two major festivals ‘Celebrating Diversity’ and ‘Kud Festival’ which set new standards of excellence of the holding of mega cultural events.
He further said that realizing our constraints and limitations, efforts are being made to explore new avenues of collaboration and partnership with various government departments, and organisations in the furtherance of our objectives.
