JAMMU, Mar 16: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Jammu & Kashmir hosted yet another spectacular show of Dogri and Kashmiri folk song, music and dance by a popular artist Surinder Singh Manhas & Group in Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology (SKUAST) Jammu under its “Horizon Series”.
The program was organized on the auspicious inaugural occasion of 5-day Kisan Mela organized by the University where Lieutenant Governor of J&K Manoj Sinha graced the occasion as chief guest.
A galaxy of music lovers and farmers congregated in the audience witnessed the programme with abundant zeal and fervour. The audience expressed their ecstasy by offering standing ovation with huge rounds of applauds.
The programme started with a lighting of lamp performed by the special guest Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu in the presence of Dr S K Gupta, Director KVK, SKUAST-J and other prominent dignitaries.
N K Shil, Regional Director, ICCR recounted in his welcome address about the aim and objectives of ICCR, a cultural wing of MEA and roles it plays in seeking to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy as well as bring India and other countries and its people together through cultural and educational initiatives/ exchanges.
While addressing the students, ICCR foreign students and farmers in the audience, reiterated that they are the builders of the society and nation and also appealed them to continue to bear the respective responsibility of determinedly trying to fetch holistic development to usher in a new era.
The performances began with Dogri song “Khand Methe Log Dogre” by Surinder Singh Manhas, which enthralled everybody in the audience with the powerful singing and dancing. The progarmme reached its crescendo and audience bumped on their toes when Indian Idol fame Varsha Jamwal and Chetan Slathia sang superbly.
The musicians who accompanied the group include Darbari Lal on Dholak, Rakesh Anand on Flute, Sahil Jasrotia on Tabla, Chandan on Keyboard and Rohit Maratha on Octapad.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the chief guest.
