JAMMU Mar 10: Indian Council for Cultural Relations, (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India organised a scintillating musical programme under the title ‘Sangeet Sandhya’ at the historic Darbar Hall of Amar Mahal, Jammu under its horizon series.
Dr. Karan Singh, president ICCR was the chief guest on the occasion who appreciated the singing of younger generation of J&K artists particularly the quality and professionalism which they demonstrated in their respective performances.
Introducing the artists to the jam-packed audience at Darbar Hall, Regional Director ICCR Jammu Balwant Thakur said that ICCR Jammu take pride is showcasing the most outstanding young singers of the State who have made their name in the music world with their sheer capability and hard work. Three singing sensations of the State viz. Sargam Pant, Zulekha Fareed and Gursharan Kaur featured it this programme of Sangeet Sandhya. The programme culminated with the presentation of a folk song on popular demand by Dr. Karan Singh who himself is a trained classical singer. This presentation of Dr. Karan Singh got standing ovation.
The programme started with Chotta Khayal by Gursharan Kaur and followed by Kafi. Born in 1984, Gursharan Kaur after completing her M.Phil in music with distinction is currently doing her PhD in music and her topic of research is ‘Dogri Lok Geet Ek Vishleshnatmak Adhayan’.
Zulekha Fareed (Born 1979) hailing from the hills of Bhadarwah had her early training in native music traditions under the guidance of her father and later shifted to Jammu to learn the new dynamics of music. Zulekha brought the flavour of the hills, transported audiences to Bharadwahi culture through her mesmerizing Bhadarwahi folk song. The musical evening jumped to a new graph when Sargam Pant (Born 1992) through her soulful voice presented Khalid Bashir’s Ghazal composed by eminent composer Sham Sajan.
Eminent music composer Sham Sajan was appreciated by one and all for his heart rendering compositions. The accompanists who were the backbone of this musical evening included Rakesh Anand on flute, Sanjay Pashi of Mandolin and Karan Malhotra on Tabla. The programme was professionally conducted and presented by Anil Tickoo.
Prominent among those who graced this rarest musical evening included M.K. Ajatshatru Singh MLC, Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Prof. Champa Sharma, Khalid Hussain, Lalit Gupta, Suman Gupta, Anuradha Rishi (Members of RAC, ICCR Jammu) Dr. Jyotsana Singh Director Amar Mahal Musuem, Prof. Nilambar Dev Sharma, Prof. Jigar Mohd, Hassrat Gadda, Rohit Verma, and Prof. Rekha Chowdhary.
