ICCR organizes interaction with Dr Satyabrata Rout

JAMMU, June 7: An interaction with eminent theatre director Dr  Satyabrata Rout was organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, here today.
Supported with the audio-visual presentation, this was unique opportunity offered by ICCR Jammu for the lovers of theatre to have close artistic encounters with one on India’s most active and critically acclaimed theatre director of the times.
Earlier in his key note address, Regional Director of ICCR, Balwant Thakur dwelt in detail about ICCR’s this initiative of organizing interaction programmes with eminent art personalities.
Dr  Satyabrata Rout was also honoured on the occasion by ICCR with the presentation of a souvenir and a shawl.  A paper on the life and contribution of Dr  Satyabrata Rout was  presented on the occasion.
Born in Odisha in the year 1958, Satyabrata Rout studied Theatre at National School of Drama, New Delhi, and passed out in 1983 with specialization in Design and Direction.
In his career spanning over a period of 28 years, he has got a wide range of experience in theatre teaching and training and developed his own teaching method in the field of Design and direction which he has developed by working with eminent theatre personalities viz  Peter Brook, John Martin, Fritz Benefits, Frank Holfman, Juan Monsalve, Beatriz Camargo, B V Karanth, Habib Tanveer, K N  Panikar, Rattan Thiyam, Bansi Kaul, M.K.Raina, Mohan Maharshi, Dr  Mohan Aghashe, Shiela Bhatia, D.R.Ankur, Dr. Anuradha Kapoor, etc.
He has directed number of successful productions by adopting the traditional Indian values with the modern theatre techniques. His production Eklavya Uvaach has participated in the international theatre festival at Pasto in 2011 and was presented in other cities of Colombia; Bogota, Villa de Layva and bagged much appreciation.
He has conducted numerous theatre workshops in India and abroad.
This was followed by a lively interaction in which Satyabrata Rout transported along all the participants to his lively and interesting theatre journey and made them aware of his findings about Indian Theatre.
Prominent among those who participated in the interaction included Vikram Sharma, Sanjeev Gupta, Subash Jamwal and Shilpa Chandar.
