JAMMU, May 29: 1st ever international painting exhibition, organized by Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, with the local support of Kala Kendra, Jammu, was opened here today.
This exhibition, curated by Rohit Verma, will remain open till June 2, 2016 daily between 11 am to 5 pm at Kala Kendra. Priya Sethi, Minister of State for Education, Culture, Tourism, Technical Education, Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, inaugurated this first ever International exhibition and opened this for public view.
Speaking on the occasion, Priya Sethi said that Jammu has lot of potential and such International art exposures will certainly help in boosting the contemporary movement of Jammu. She assured all possible help from the Government aimed at the development of tourism, education and culture of the State of J&K.
On the occasion she desired ICCR to organize a similar arts residency of International artists in the State of J&K and for that all the required local help will be provided by J&K Government. She also had a word of appreciation for both Chinese and Indian artists whose works are under display at Kala Kendra.
Earlier, giving threadbare background of this international art event, Regional Director of ICCR, Balwant Thakur informed that paintings of 19 artists created during ‘India-China Women Artists Residency’ have been put together for this painting exhibition.
This is the major International arts initiative of ICCR in the State of Jammu & Kashmir. Balwant Thakur further informed that though ICCR brought the vibrant performing traditions of Zambia, Loas, Spain, Poland, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Belgium in Jammu but this is the first occasion when Jammuites will get to see the works of International artists.
Nineteen India-China painters, whose works are under display, include Zhao Aihua, Yang Yan, Wang Yuhong, Wang Xin, Tang Baoling, Sheetal Gattani, Rekha Rao, Nupur Kundu, Meenakshi Kasliwal Bharati, Madhuri Bhaduri, Lu Yuwei, Liu Yuanshan, Kiran Murdia, Kanchan Chander, He Daqiao, Gogi Saroj Pal, Chen Yanyin, Bulbul Sharma and Asma Menon.
Prominent among those, who graced the occasion, included eminent playwriter Narinder Mohan, Dr A S ‘Amn’, Additional Secretary J&K Cultural Academy, Savita Bakshi, former Special Secretary J&K Cultural Academy, Rakesh Sharma Manoj Chopra, Vikram Sharma, Sukhjeet Singh Kukkal, Chander Prakash, Sonu Aggarwal, Vikas Khajuria, Milan Sharma, Jung S Varman, Dinesh Sharma, Suresh Sharma, Shivani Sharma, K K Gandhi, Sahil Ohri, and students of IMFA.
