IDS observes Mouth Cancer Awareness Day

JAMMU, Sept 15: Mouth Cancer Awareness Day (MCAD) was observed today in the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), Jammu on the lines of an annual campaign being run by the Mouth Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Group of Ireland.
Principal of the College Dr Sarbjeet Singh was present on the occasion, accompanied by all HoDs, interns and final year students of the institute who participated in the awareness programme. Various speakers took part in the programme and highlighted the public and professional awareness of mouth, head and neck cancer, and the link between alcohol and these cancers.
The emphasized on early detection and encourage earlier presentation with signs and concerns about mouth, head and neck cancer to improve potential outcomes. A skit was also staged by the final year students showing the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco related products leading to Oral Cancer.
Few patients were also in the programme. They were later given informative pamphlets. The programme culminated with vote of thanks presented by Dr Esha Bali, Head, Department of Public Health Dentistry.
