JAMMU, Mar 30: Institutional Ethics Committee of GMC Jammu held its two days long meeting under the chairmanship of Prof Kuldeep Sharma (former HoD Zoology & Dean Jammu University, to accord provisional approval to 187 research proposals submitted by MD/MS/DNB students of 2022-2025 junior batch.
Chairman said that the IEC is taking very keen interest in according necessary ethical approvals to various projects in shortest possible manner provided the documentations and other necessary requirements are completed by the researcher. He emphasized HoDs to scrutinize the projects within department before putting it to Ethical Board for approvals.
Prof (Dr) Sanjay Kumar Bhasin, Members Secretary IEC GMC, while presenting agenda of the meeting, took approval of the minutes of the previous meeting of IEC held on 6th & 7th July 2023. He put to the house 64 category A projects, 50 Category B and 77 Category C projects one by one for provisional ethical approvals.
Members from clinical, basic science, social science and legal backgrounds interacted with the presenters and provided their inputs for better framing of study protocols.
Majority of interventional studies belonged to Anesthesia, Surgery and Orthopedic departments. Two DNB Projects under category A, one each from Cardiology and Psychiatry Deptt were also accorded approved provisionally after necessary amendments in submitted proposals.
Members Secretary, while extending vote of thanks, also ensured the Full Board that IEC shall continue working with full devotion, dedication and zeal in the larger interest of scientific research as per the SoPs in this regard. He encouraged researchers to come up with quality research proposals after proper deliberations and preparing proper synopsis.
The members who attended two day full board meeting included Prof Ghanshyam Dev (Advisor to IEC), Prof Ghanshyam Saini, Prof Subhash Bhardwaj, Prof Anil Gupta & Prof Ravinder Gupta from ASCOMS, Prof Seema Gupta, Dr Nancy Mengi from Central University, Advocate P S Parmar, Dr Dev Raj (Statistician), Sudhir Kumar(Layman).
